Heretaunga Marae Waakainga

Mana Ake, An Expression of Kaitiakitanga is a collective hapū management plan that was lodged with the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council in 2015 as an iwi environmental management plan under the Local Government Act and the RMA.  A product of Te Rūnanganui o Heretaunga collective and Te Manaaki Taiao it brought together shared marae hapū values and broad policies.

A second version of Mana Ake is to be compiled with the help of marae and hapu, providing more detail around Māori environmental taonga, values, attributes, measurements and standards for our future environmental management practices for wai, whenua, hau, maunga, whānau and marae.

It will have greater detail on agreed marae hapū influence areas, including waahi tapu, to help marae and hapū strategic and management planning, the establishment of marae hapū freshwater management kaitiaki units for all waimāori under the emerging Ma_uri monitoring framework for the Tukituki awa that is currently being tested by mana whenua.

Any version of Mana Ake is and will always be based on mana whenua tikanga.
