Heretaunga Marae Waakainga

Everyone knows the great value of freshwater.  It is what we all need to survive, what all creatures great and small need to survive, and what Papatūānuku needs to survive.  We are all linked through that one essential element and without we would not be.

Aotearoa has plenty of water but it has been abused , overused and misused like it is an infinite resource.  Like the rest of the world, Aotearoa is finding out that water is a taonga that should be cared for, repected, honoured and it's mauri perpetuated so it can continue to sustain us.  Like our tipuna have always known and instructed.

We are at the crossroads and  we must choose the right path.  The Ministry for the Environment has updated the government's 2012 freshwater policy and the Waitangi Tribunal has summarised their response to it but it is up to mana whenua to save our waterways. To save Papatūānuku.
